Play test screenshots!

April 23, 2013 | Dukus | 46 Comments

Over the last few days I've made fixes to some hard-to-find bugs that have been plaguing the game for a long time. Many of these bugs only show up in extended play. I've also done some performance optimization to handle higher populations.

And so today I played the game for a long while to stress test my fixes. Below are some screenshots of the resulting town. This town uses only hunting, gathering, and fishing for food.

  1. Very nice! I really like the one showing off the bird's eye view (as well as the minimap). Glad to have an update with some good screenshots to pour over.

  2. After seeing the screenshots from winter I was thinking about something....That could be harsh in-game but do you thought about making all the water freeze when winter comes? That would be a big challenge for player if there was just hunting left in winter. That would also mean stack yourself as much as possible for winter!

  3. Looks amazing!
Can you make a video soon? That way I can better imagine to play the game. 🙂 What I cannot wait to do....

  4. Love the look of this game! Can't wait till you let the rest of us in on the fun! 🙂

  5. Looks absolutely beautiful, great work! Ive been reading all of your posts theyre great keep em coming

  6. Hope we see a playable alpha/beta soon. I've been waiting for a game like this for years.

  7. I notice you have degrees in Fahrenheit at the bottom of one of those pictures. Will there also be a metric toggle in the options menu? Don't overlook us base-10 metric people.

  8. I love everything except I feel like the water and the river bank/underwater should be a different texture, or possibly darker. Something's missing...maybe even adding some plants or reeds around the edges of the river would make it look good. But it just looks too bright to me.

  9. Will there be larger bodies of water? I'd like to see a settlement take over a coastline or surround a lake.

  10. Looks great! The textures on the tents seem too clean to me though, like they are straight from Walmart. The colors are great though they match the wiki article on natural dyes. Is dye a trade able thing in game?

  11. Ваш проект очень заинтересовал меня. Хочу пожелать вам удачи в разработке. Ваша игра обязательно должна появиться в Steam!

  12. I second the request for Celsius. Or even, since I only know Fahrenheit, an option to show both. That might help me learn to convert between them intuitively.

  13. One thing I notice is that the Temperature is displayed in Fahrenheit. It would be appreciated if that could be toggled to Celsius too.

  14. So excited! Looks fantastic. Some reeds and grassy knolls or stones, dead trees along the waterlines would will make it even better. It's giving me a Settlers II has-grown-up vibe.

    Can't wait!

  15. Is that me or the ground and water textures seem a bit... low definition compared to the buildings and trees ?

It still looks amazing though. Can't wait to play.

  16. Excellent! Thanks for providing further screen shots. It's an amazing thing you're doing just going out and creating something like this on your own. (whether it be due to unemployment or an ambition you've had for a while). I'm glad there are people out there like you showing the big end of town that the little people can do things just as good if not better! Well done!

I agree that would look amazing.

I will probably sit for hours just staring at my city watching everyone go to work cuz its so relaxing

  18. Very nice I can't wait for the game. Just something I was wondering, do you actually see fisherman ships on the rivers? Or are the fishers just some guys throwing there lines from the pier?

  19. Wow. Looks amazing! I was wondering if there will be lighting changes for morning/evening/night and weather?

  20. @Blxz, @Seiji, @DanielCoffey: a game option already exists to change the temperature display between Fahrenheit and Celsius.

@Ateerix, @Sebas: Yes I know the river banks could use some artwork additions. We'll see what I have time for. 🙂

@Tim: It probably took me 4-5 hours to build that far, although I had a few false starts and minor bug fixes that interrupted the play.

@Augwich: The closest screenshots here are as close as the camera can get.

@Nohjo: Churches probably won't be added, unless it's in an expansion of more buildings.

@razK, @DMTunity: There may be larger bodies of water, but this is something I'll have to implement and experiment with before I make a decision.

@Beuner: At the moment fisherman just fish off the docks.

  21. Looks Great! I cant wait to play this game. I keep putting money into my DVD drive but you're not taking it.....

  22. This is looking so awesome. It must be really satisfying to see all your hard work playing out and working so well.

  23. This looks REALLY cool. Is there going to be any beta/testers for this? Just wondering. Keep up the good work, seems like you really enjoy doing this!

  24. looks beautiful, i hope it plays as well as it looks! if it does, you will have a winner on your hands!

  25. I've been exploring for a little bit for any high quality articles or weblog posts on this sort of area . Exploring in Yahoo I ultimately stumbled upon this site. Reading this info So i am glad to exhibit that I've an incredibly excellent uncanny feeling I came upon just what I needed. I such a lot definitely will make certain to don?t put out of your mind this site and give it a glance regularly.

  26. I know you hear this a lot, but: I must play this, as soon as possible. I love love how it sounds / looks 🙂

Good luck finishing the game, I wish you financial success

  27. Very nice! cant wait to play.
You might want to add winter clothing on townsfolk.
Keep up the good work mate.
    Btw where are you from?
    Good luck mate.

    Wally

  28. Impressive, definitely can't wait to get my hands on this. Are you thinking of more buildings and professions? Could expand with places your population can gather and socialize, restaurant, tavern, etc. 🙂

    Nice activity logs, RIP Emiles.
    Good luck finishing the game!

  29. @Dukus

Thanks for the reply! I'm not sure how easy it would be implement, but I have to say that I would love to be able to really zoom in to the level of the people walking around - I'd love to be able to see the village from their perspective. It creates a whole new atmosphere in my mind.

  30. I have some suggestions, as future player(payer) of this game and Strategy-City Games player:

    - Darker Water. If you change the water textures and make deeper rivers, it'll be awesome!

    - Seasonal Woods would make the game even more realistic!

    - Dirty Streets, with darker textures would look more realistic since streets of Middle Age villages were very dirty.

    - Better Houses and Buildings along with gameplay. I mean, you start with wooden houses and buildings and got better architecture and stones buildings when you reach some achievements, with better rooftops, cleaner etc. It'd be awesome!

    - Different types of Maps... Mountains, Plains, Seaside...

    - Barbarian attacks... It'd be nice to add some barbarian attacks to the village. It could be since little pillages to great invasions... The player would need to create some kind of army or guard to maintain the village safe.

    - Create regions or neighboring villages, which the player could control in other maps inside a greater Region. So you can add algorithms of trade consequences, production and etc;

Please PLEASE!!!! Accept at least one of my suggestions. I've playing strategy games for a long time it game will be awesome! It lacks so little to achieve the perspective of Strategy game me and i know, most of strategy players have ever dreamed of!

Thank you and please, again, read my suggestions!
